Description
The material used is a luxurious antelope-finished wool, which is finer and more lustrous than regular wool. Antelope refers to rabbit fur felt of the highest quality, where short-napped fur undergoes a brushing process. This wool faithfully recreates the smooth texture of rabbit fur.
The brim is a short 5cm. The brim tip has a raw edge finish and is an all-up brim, but it can also be arranged into a snap brim by tilting the front down.
The hatband features a special gentleman's ribbon with finely shaped edges (commonly known as "ears"). This luxurious item can only be woven at low speeds and requires extensive handwork by skilled artisans during many stages of its production. Its beautiful finish exudes a unique presence that cannot be found in mass-produced items.
A windcatcher, secured with elastic, is attached around the crown. In the past, this was used by buttoning it through the flower hole of a jacket or shirt to prevent the hat from being blown off by the wind or falling off during travel. This windcatcher is not only practical but also serves as a subtle accent that sharpens the overall impression.
The sweatband is made of vegetable-tanned cow leather, a tanning method that soaks the leather in tannins (astringent plant compounds) found in the skin, bark, leaves, and fruits of plants. This leather is less prone to shrinkage, robust, and will mold to the shape of the head and deepen in color with use.
