Panama hats originated in Ecuador and are made primarily from toquilla grass (Panama grass).Toquilla grass is opened into a fan shape, boiled, dried, and torn into small pieces, which are then woven by hand.
It is believed to have originated from a hat made of toquilla grass worn by people in Ecuador to protect their heads from the strong sun.

The three main differences are the brim width, crown shape, and grade.
