As the name suggests, the flight cap is said to have originally been the hat worn by pilots while flying an airplane.

It was worn all year round to protect from the cold in the air, where temperatures are lower than on the ground. The earmuffs are designed to allow you to adjust the temperature on the ground by raising them.
